Nzuamkende James Shilla holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Masters of Business Administration, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management.
Before joining Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML), Shilla gained considerable experience in the industry. He served as a Project Manager for KAL Tyres in Ghana at Gold Field Mine for eight months. In Tanzania, he continued his role as a Project Manager with KAL Tyre, overseeing tire management contracts at various Barrick sites, including North Mara, Buzwagi, and Tulawaka, for a year. Further expanding his professional horizon, Shilla spent five years at Lumwana Mining in Zambia, where he undertook multiple roles related to equipment maintenance.
Shilla commenced his journey with GGML in July 2011 as a Tyre Management First-Line Manager (FLM). By May 2014, he transitioned to Projects Coordinator (P500), focusing on cost-saving projects under the Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) division for two years. In June 2016, he was promoted to Superintendent for Heavy Equipment Workshops, responsible for managing routine maintenances and major overhauls for mobile equipment.
A year later, in July 2017, Shilla was named the Senior HME Manager, overseeing all maintenance-related activities for on-site mobile equipment. His role expanded in August 2019 when he became the Senior Engineering Manager following the merger of the HME and Reliability Engineering departments. In June 2022, the department grew further with the integration of the Infrastructure function, previously under the Sustainability department. Shilla now leads a team that is approaching a headcount of nearly 600 employees
