Simon Shayo serves as the Vice President for Sustainability and Corporate Affairs for AngloGold Ashanti’s Ghana and Tanzania Business Unit. As a global gold mining entity, AngloGold Ashanti boasts a diverse and top-quality collection of operations, projects, and exploration endeavours spanning nine countries across four continents.

Recognized as a distinguished Sustainability Specialist, Simon brings to the table over two decades of profound expertise in the realm of natural resources and extractives, encompassing sectors like energy, mining, oil, and gas. His impressive career trajectory includes associations with noteworthy entities such as British Petroleum (BP), BBC World Service Trust, Tanzania Natural Gas Projects, the Nile Basin Initiative, Barrick Gold Corporation, and of course, AngloGold Ashanti.

Simon’s professional footprint extends to both operational and corporate facets within the natural resources and extractive sectors, predominantly in Tanzania and other developing nations. A significant part of his stewardship revolves around Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations for businesses. He is well-versed and possesses hands-on experience with international guiding principles such as IFC Performance Standards, the International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM), the World Gold Council, and many others pertinent to the Sustainability sector.

Earning distinction as a Certified Director, Simon holds pivotal roles in numerous Boards and Trusts. He presides as the Chairman of the UN Global Compact Network in Tanzania (UNGCNT), serves as an Executive Board Director for Geita Gold Mining Limited, and holds Board Director positions at the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) and Geita Greenfield Minerals Exploration Limited. Additionally, Simon’s expertise is sought after as an Executive Councillor of the Tanzania Chamber of Mines (TCM).
