Transforming Healthcare in Geita

Health is fundamental to resilient communities and sustainable development. Our health investments are designed to strengthen local healthcare systems, improve access to essential services, and support better long-term outcomes for families across our host communities. This work aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.

Between 2018 and 2025, Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) invested over 14 billion TZS (5.32 million USD) in healthcare initiatives. This investment has supported critical infrastructure upgrades, the provision of medical equipment, and targeted health programmes responding to some of the region’s most pressing needs.

Our support spans practical improvements, from roofing and facility rehabilitation through to the purchase of essential medical equipment, helping health centres deliver more reliable and effective care. Alongside this, GGML continues to advance workforce malaria reduction efforts and sustain internal and external HIV/AIDS awareness initiatives, supporting prevention, education, and improved health outcomes within the workplace and surrounding communities.

Facilities such as Nzera Health Centre reflect the value of this investment, bringing quality healthcare closer to the people who need it most.

Bringing quality care closer to families across Geita

For Grace Ezekiel, a mother of three and entrepreneur in Nkome, the impact of improved healthcare is both immediate and deeply personal. Before the upgrades at Nkome Health Centre, accessing treatment could mean waiting up to eight hours for consultation, while prescribed medication was often unavailable after childbirth.

Since the improvement of the facility, Grace now receives treatment in less than an hour. Essential medication is available, staffing has improved, and her children can access care more efficiently. Having delivered all three of her children at the centre, including her youngest after the renovation, she has witnessed the change firsthand.
