As a site, Geita mine has put in place all necessary precautions to keep its employees and community safe, focusing on required infrastructure such as hand washing facilities in all entry points and providing sanitisers.

We have revised the petty cash policy to introduce M-Pesa (mobile money) as an optional means of paying employees who are either being referred to hospitals outside Geita or travel off-site for business assignments. Geita has also introduced the Working from home Policy which has been drafted to equip employees with interlinked computers to work from their homes.

As way of supporting the efforts of the Regional Government in Geita in fighting the pandemic, in 2020 the mine purchased and donated medical and allied equipment to the value of 500 million shillings. This was in addition to the 1.1 billion shillings that was provided for support at a national level.

All the efforts put in place to fight the pandemic have enabled Geita to survive the first and second wave with little health effects and uninterrupted production. Onsite, the Covid-19 isolation and treatment centre remains functional and operational.
