AngloGold Ashanti Chief Operating Officer Visits Geita Gold Mine, Highlighting Operational Strength and Growth Potential

Geita Gold Mine recently had the honour of hosting AngloGold Ashanti’s Chief Operating Officer, Marcelo Pereira, alongside Terry Strong, SVP Africa Business Unit, Jason May, SVP Technical & Technology and Marius Roux, VP Operations Integration & Reporting – Business Improvement & Technology from across the business, during a three-day visit focused on operational performance, safety, and the long-term future of the mine.

The visit provided an important opportunity for leadership engagement and strategic alignment, while also showcasing the strength of Geita’s operations, the dedication of its people, and the mine’s continued role as a standout asset within AngloGold Ashanti.

Over the course of the three-day visit, the delegation received a comprehensive presentation from the Management Committee focused on Geita’s operational performance and priorities. This was followed by site tours to key operating areas, including the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), Process Plant, Nyamlilima Open Pit, and the Nyankanga Underground operations.

The programme concluded on 11 March with a strategic workshop involving Heads of Department, where leaders reflected on performance, opportunities, and the collective actions required to sustain excellence into the future. A farewell dinner later marked the close of the visit in a spirit of appreciation and partnership.

In his remarks during the visit, the COO expressed satisfaction with GGML’s progress and recognized the mine as a strong and promising operation within the AGA portfolio. He commended the team for its performance and noted the significant opportunities ahead, while emphasizing that achieving results must always go hand in hand with safe and disciplined execution.

Looking Ahead

The visit reaffirmed confidence in GGML’s operational capability, growth potential, and the commitment of its teams across the business. It also served as a powerful reminder that our long-term success will continue to be shaped by safe production, strong relationships, operational excellence, and a shared commitment to delivering value responsibly.

As we continue to thrive in this journey, the visit leaves behind a strong message of encouragement: the mine is performing well, its potential remains significant, and its people remain central to shaping a strong and sustainable future.
