Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) yesterday joined the Geita Municipal Council to launch a community malaria prevention campaign in the presence of the Guest of Honour, Hon. Hashim Komba, District Commissioner for Geita District, reaffirming a shared commitment to improving health outcomes across the mine’s host communities.
Malaria remains one of Geita’s most significant public health challenges. Encouragingly, malaria prevalence in Geita Municipal has declined from 13% in 2024 to 8% in 2025, demonstrating that sustained interventions are making a difference. However, further progress is needed to support the national goal of malaria elimination by 2030.

Through the partnership, GGML is supporting Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in approximately 20,000 households across Mgusu, Mtakuja, and Kalangalala, while bio-larviciding will target mosquito breeding sites in 13 wards. Community awareness and health education will accompany both interventions to encourage prevention at household level.
The campaign complements the company’s ongoing malaria prevention efforts, including providing mosquito repellent spray to employees and investing in initiatives that protect employees, their families, and neighbouring communities.

Healthy communities are the foundation of sustainable development, and this partnership reflects GGML’s continued investment in Geita’s long-term well-being.
