Last week, Simon Shayo, Vice President: Sustainability and Corporate Affairs (Africa) for AngloGold Ashanti, visited the Geita Regional Commissioner’s Office for an engagement and donation visit that reinforced our shared commitment to strengthening local institutions.
During the visit, Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) officially handed over the first batch of office furniture to the Geita Regional Commissioner, Hon. Martin Shigella, together with the Geita Regional Administrative Secretary, Hon. Mohamed Gombati, as part of our continued support to government offices that serve our communities. This initial donation, valued at over TZS 160 million, included 24 high-standard ergonomic chairs and office carpets, and marks the first phase of a broader furniture request.
Speaking at the handover, Simon Shayo highlighted GGML’s commitment to collaborative engagement with communities and stakeholders that goes beyond traditional corporate social responsibility. In response, Hon. Martin Shigella and Hon. Mohamed Gombati expressed sincere appreciation and confirmed the furniture will be used inclusively.
This initiative is another practical example of how responsible mining can support longterm development by strengthening the institutions that help communities thrive. By investing in partnerships and shared spaces that enable effective public service, we continue to build a future where GGML and Geita grow together through trust, cooperation, and sustainable impact.
