Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has been honoured at the Pre-International Women’s Day Awards 2026 for its contribution to corporate social responsibility in women’s empowerment, recognising more than 25 years of purposeful investment in uplifting women and girls in our communities.
Across Geita, GGML’s initiatives are opening doors to opportunity. From education infrastructure to mentorship programmes reaching thousands of young women, the company continues to create pathways for women to learn, grow, and lead.

The award was presented at a high-profile event attended by government and industry leaders. Guest of Honour, Deputy Minister of Minerals Hon. Steven Kiruswa, emphasised the importance of these efforts, noting that “empowering women is essential for the sustainable growth of our sector and our nation.”

A panel discussion titled “Breaking the Barriers: Advancing Women in Extractives and Leadership” brought valuable perspectives from Janeth Lekashingo, Fortunata Manyeresa, and Mecktilder Mchomvu. Their insights highlighted the importance of mentorship, inclusive policies, and deliberate action to accelerate women’s participation and leadership.
This recognition is both a proud moment and a reaffirmation of GGML’s commitment to an inclusive future where women are not only part of the story, but are leading it.
