Give to Gain: GGML Supports Women’s Empowerment at The Citizen Rising Gala

On 6 March 2026, Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) participated in the Rising Woman event organised by Mwananchi Communications Limited through The Citizen, a national platform dedicated to advancing women’s leadership, inclusion, and empowerment in Tanzania.

The Rising Woman Initiative brings together influential leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and organisations that are championing gender equality and inclusive growth across sectors. The initiative has grown into one of Tanzania’s most prominent platforms celebrating women’s leadership and recognising institutions that actively support women’s advancement in the workplace and society.

This year’s edition was held under the international Women’s Day 2026 theme “Give to Gain,” a call for institutions and leaders to intentionally invest in women through mentorship, opportunity, and leadership pathways.

GGML attended the event and received two awards for supporting the initiative as a sponsor and a Rising Woman award recognising GGML as an organisation championing equity and women empowerment in the workplace. These recognitions highlight GGML’s role in supporting platforms that elevate women’s voices and celebrate their contributions to national development.

The event also featured a series of high-level discussions and reflections from national leaders and development stakeholders. Speaking during one of the sessions, Minister of State, President’s Office, Planning and Investment, Hon. Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, who was also the Chief Guest at the event, emphasised the importance of inclusion in shaping Tanzania’s future development. “Inclusion is a measure to ensure that moving forward the majority of Tanzanians are represented in key sectors driving growth and development.” he said.

Mwananchi Communications Limited Managing Director Rosalynn Mndolwa-Mworia highlighted the broader vision behind the Rising Woman initiative stating: “This platform is our investment in the protagonist of Tanzania’s next chapter of development.”

These discussions reinforced the central message of the initiative: when women are supported to lead and thrive, the benefits extend beyond individuals to organisations, communities, and the nation as a whole.
