Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) recently hosted a high-level government delegation led by the Minister for Environment, Hon. Eng. Hamad Y. Masauni, Permanent Secretary from the Vice President’s Office, the Geita District Commissioner, District Administrative Secretary, Geita Municipal Council representatives, and the National Environment Management Council (NEMC). The delegation was warmly welcomed by GGML’s Managing Director, Ashraf Suryaningrat.
The visit gave the delegation a firsthand look at GGML’s operations, showcasing the company’s environmental practices, contributions to local communities, and role in the national economy, while providing a platform to discuss regulatory alignment and industry challenges.




The Permanent Secretary commended GGML for its strong environmental record and alignment with international best practices, noting its significant contribution to Tanzania’s economy. The delegation explored how the company integrates operational excellence with sustainable practices, including local employment, procurement, stakeholder engagement, and carbon reduction, while supporting community development and national growth.
Also, GGML showcased its ongoing efforts to minimize environmental impact while promoting sustainable growth, responsible mining, and long-term benefits for both the environment and local communities. The Minister praised GGML’s strong performance, economic contributions, collaboration with the Bank of Tanzania, and job creation, while commending its commitment to sustainability and support for local and green initiatives.
“GGML is leading by example in sustainable mining practices,” he said, emphasizing the company’s efforts to balance economic growth with environmental and social responsibility.
The visit also included a tour of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), providing the delegation with firsthand insight into GGML’s management of complex environmental and operational responsibilities. The tour highlighted areas where continued diligence and proactive oversight are essential to maintaining safe and responsible operations.
