At Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML), Marry Mushi, Geologist, Mine Geology, helps turn geological understanding into practical mining decisions.
Her experience at Kabanga Nickel and GGML has shown her how geological priorities shift across commodities.
“In gold, I focus more on the structural controls and grade variability,” she explains. In nickel, she focuses on orebody geometry, continuity and mineralogy, and their relationship with host rocks and structures.
“University gave me a strong technical foundation,” she says. Mine experience taught her to apply it under production pressure, manage uncertainty and understand the consequences of geological decisions.
Her advice to young geologists is to develop skills in modelling, sampling, data interpretation, quality assurance and control, and grade control. Practical experience, safety, communication and integrity are equally important.
“Strong skills, practical experience and continuous learning open doors across commodities and borders.”
