Geita Gold Mine recently welcomed Tanzania’s National Mine Closure Committee to review our Mine Closure Plan. The engagement reinforces our commitment to responsible mining and to planning for the future throughout the life of the mine.
The review covered environmental rehabilitation, health and safety, land management and community wellbeing. These areas are central to creating a safe, stable and sustainable post-mining environment.

The visit also provided an opportunity to demonstrate how closure considerations are progressively integrated into our planning and operations. This approach supports compliance with Tanzania’s mining requirements while strengthening long-term environmental and social outcomes.
Our Environmental Manager, Yusuph Mhando, highlighted GGM’s integrated approach to mine closure, bringing together safety, environmental management and community considerations. Planning evolves alongside our operations as conditions, knowledge and priorities develop.

For GGM, responsible mining extends beyond production. By planning today for what comes after mining, we aim to protect the environment, support surrounding communities and leave a positive, sustainable legacy for Geita.
