On the 3rd of February 2026, Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) officially handed over newly completed semi-detached staff houses to officers serving at Mgusu Police Station.
The ceremony brought together GGML and government leadership, with Geita Regional Commissioner Hon. Martine Shigela officiating alongside regional and district leaders and the Regional Police command. GGML was represented by Duan Campbell (Acting Managing Director), Gilbert Mworia (Senior Manager – Sustainability), and George Kaijunga (Manager – Security Production & Community Policing), as well as other officials including Geita District Commissioner Hon. Hashim Komba, the Mgusu Ward Councillor, and local leaders.
As he addressed the gathering, Hon. Martine Shigela noted that GGML’s impact is felt far beyond the mine, saying the company “creates jobs, supports local business, and strengthens national development,” and adding that its community support has been “clear and consistent.”
The housing initiative reflects GGML’s responsible mining approach, grounded in listening to stakeholders, responding to genuine needs, and strengthening institutions that serve communities.
Speaking on behalf of GGML, Duan Campbell (Acting Managing Director) reaffirmed the company’s commitment to follow-through, saying, “When we make commitments, we deliver,” and emphasising that “strong institutions build strong communities.” Safety, he added, is not limited to the mine site, it extends to “homes, roads, schools, and neighbourhoods.”
