On Friday 26 June 2026, GGML was represented at the Business SDG Awards Gala as a Gold-level sponsor, joining Tanzania’s senior business and government leadership at the Hyatt Regency in Dar es Salaam. The event, organized by the Global Compact Network Tanzania (GCNT), is an annual platform now in its fourth year that recognizes private sector companies delivering measurable progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

GGML’s representation at the event was led by Simon Shayo, Vice President for Sustainability and Stakeholder Engagement, who attended in his dual capacity as a senior leader of GGML and as Board Chairperson of GCNT Tanzania. Shayo addressed attendees during the gala, situating GGML’s commitment to sustainable development within Tanzania’s broader national development philosophy and connecting the company’s 25-year track record in Geita to the SDG framework that the awards are designed to advance.

The guest of honor for the evening was Hon. Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, who underscored the centrality of the private sector to Tanzania’s Dira 2050 ambitions, noting that the USD 1 trillion economy target was shaped by private sector leadership and that job creation remains the primary measure of meaningful development.
GGML’s Gold-level sponsorship reflects the company’s alignment with GCNT’s mandate and the SDG framework.
