On the 21st of February 2026, Geita Gold Mine welcomed Tanzania’s Minister of Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Hon. Deus Clement Sangu, for an official site visit. He was accompanied by the Geita District Commissioner, Hon. Hashim Komba.
The Minister was received by our Managing Director, Ashraf Suryaningrat, alongside Dr. Kiva Mvungi, Senior Manager – HSE, Gilbert Mworia, Senior Manager – Sustainability & Isack Senya, Safety Manager. The purpose of the visit was to observe how occupational health and safety systems are implemented at the mine and to engage on broader industry collaboration.


During the visit, the Minister commended GGML’s strong safety culture and leadership in responsible mining. He noted that consistent safety performance supports sustainable operations and national development.
The mine’s contribution to Tanzania’s economy through tax compliance and local employment was also recognised.

Discussions further highlighted the importance of maintaining strong relationships with host communities, supporting youth empowerment initiatives, and strengthening local content participation to grow job opportunities.
Overall, the visit was a good reminder of the value of continued collaboration between government, regulators and industry to advance occupational health and safety standards across Tanzania’s mining sector. Many
