Team Spirit on Display at the Geita Gold Mine Community Sports Bonanza

The day began early and full of energy with a community run at 5:30 AM, stretching from Kalangalala Primary School to the Nyankumbu Girls Secondary School grounds, a proud community investment project developed by us.

Leading the run were members of management, including Duan Campbell, Acting Managing Director, alongside Dr. Kiva Mvungi, Senior Manager – HSE, Dominic Marandu, Acting Director – Human Resources, Gilbert Mworia, Senior Manager – Sustainability, and Janeth Luponelo, Senior Manager – Geology. From the first steps, the message was clear: good health, strong teams, and active participation in our host communities matter.

By mid-morning, the Nyankumbu grounds had transformed into a lively meeting point for employees, partners, and the wider Geita community. There was laughter, joy, and real team spirit throughout the day, with management reinforcing the importance of staying active, building connections across teams, and showing up together as one community here at Geita Gold Mine.

As the games got underway, the competition was spirited across football, volleyball, netball, and basketball. GGML delivered a strong performance, taking first place in football, volleyball, and netball. Our partners, including African Underground Mining Services, Infinity, and SGA Security, added to the energy on the field and helped make the day feel truly inclusive.

The fun continued beyond the main games with activities like sack races and the egg and spoon race, where our very own Gilbert Mworia, Senior Manager – Sustainability, showed us he has speed and balance, earning a well-deserved third place and plenty of cheers.

The day then wrapped up with awards and celebrations, leaving everyone with a fresh reminder of the supportive and united community we have built, not only within the mine but also together with the wider Geita community.

A special thank you to Ibrahim Vallence, Senior Supervisor – Welding, whose leadership and coordination played a key role in bringing the bonanza to life. We are confident the next one will be even better, so please keep an eye on upcoming updates and invitations so you can be part of the next bonanza.
