We recently welcomed a delegation from the Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI), led by Board Chairman Hon. Ambassador Wilson
Mutagaywa Kajumula Masilingi (pictured below, right), for a visit focused on accountability and the mine’s contribution to national and community development.
The delegation met with Ashraf Suryaningrat, Managing Director of Geita Gold Mine, alongside members of the leadership team, including Simon Shayo (Vice President: Sustainability & Corporate Affairs, Africa), David Nzaligo (Senior Legal Counsel), Suleiman Machira (Senior Manager – Security), and Gilbert Mworia (Senior Manager – Sustainability).

During the visit, Ambassador Masilingi praised GGML’s contribution to the country, noting that “GGML is strongly aligned with the development of the country.” His remarks reflected the broader tone of the engagement, which centred on the role of mining in creating lasting value for Tanzanians through compliance, local employment, skills development, and meaningful investment in host communities.

The discussions also looked ahead, with a strong focus on preparing the next generation of Tanzanian professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), including encouraging more women to pursue opportunities in these fields. GGML shared examples of local success stories, including the journey of Dr. George Kadondo, as well as community initiatives that help strengthen economic resilience beyond mining.
Ambassador Masilingi also recognised the mine’s impact at community level, saying, “You’ve done a fantastic job so far to make sure that the host community benefits from your presence.” That message captured the spirit of the visit well: progress is strongest when industry, government and communities continue working together in ways that are practical, transparent and focused on people.
