Transforming Aquaculture on Lake Victoria: How GGML’s CSR is Driving Sustainable Community Development in Tanzania

What started as a small savings group in Nywala Village is now a thriving aquaculture business on Lake Victoria.

The 33-member Jiendeleze Group once relied on informal contributions to support each other. Today, with support from Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML), they are managing over 100,000 fish in cage farms.

Members are no longer just saving; they are running a business. From monitoring fish growth to planning expansion, the group is already thinking ahead and exploring ways to sustain production year-round and grow their enterprise.

Their journey reflects the real impact of our work: enabling communities to move from uncertainty to opportunity.

Across Tanzania, aquaculture is gaining momentum as a driver of livelihoods. Through initiatives like this, GGML is helping unlock that potential, supporting local enterprise, building skills, and creating lasting economic value.

For Jiendeleze, the future is no longer something to wait for. It is something they are actively building. To read more about our impact, click here.
