Edina Didas, a 16-year-old science student in Form IV at Shanta Secondary School joined the school in 2022, right when the school was starting major renovations on its boarding facilities. “I saw the project begin,” she says and recounts a frightening memory from when she was in Form I. “There was no fence back then. One night, a man came into our dorm completely naked. He was trying to scare us. We screamed and ran outside into the schoolyard. We didn’t feel safe at all.” The buildings were not secured, and the girls often felt afraid. Some even thought of leaving school because of it.
Now, things are very different. The boarding project brought new dorms, better living conditions, and most importantly security. The dorms are now gated, and students feel protected.
Following in her brothers’ footsteps
“We are proud to live here now,” Edina says with a smile. “The dorms are clean, safe, and well-managed. Because of that, more and more students are coming to Shanta. Everyone wants to be part of this new experience.”
Edina’s older brother is currently attending university and she dreams of following in his footsteps. The improvement to boarding life has helped her focus on studies. With fewer distractions and a safe environment, she’s working hard toward a better future just like her brother.
