From Dar es Salaam to Butundwe: Emiliana’s story

Emiliana, a Form VI student studying a  challenging combination of subjects; Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture at Butundwe, is a resident of Dar es Salaam. In a shy voice, she explained that upon completion of Form IV exams, she was selected by the government to join Butundwe Secondary School for her Advanced studies.

She had a hard time adjusting to school life in Butundwe, a huge leap from her previous learning environment in urban Dar es Salaam. She struggled to adapt to the congested classrooms, sitting on the floor during mealtimes and sometimes getting rained on if the classes were held outside.

‘I am grateful that we now have a hall to use for studies , seminars and graduation. I am happier to be at school because of what GGML has brought us.’ After the building was built, Emiliana remembers when GGML female employees held a seminar for the girls where they enjoyed privacy, something that was not possible before.

She is proud to be a student at the school because the hall has made the school more appealing which she believes will attract more people.
