Felista is a young single mother of a 3 year old girl who lives in Katundu with her mother. She joined Butundwe in early 2025 and is happy to already be witnessing the difference the dining hall is making.
As a mother to a girl, she is passionate about the young girls and students she teaches Chemistry and Biology at Butundwe. Having taught at a secondary school before in Dodoma, Felista understands the value of peer-to-peer learning and support amongst high school girls in both urban and rural Tanzania.
‘I hope to see the girls use the dining hall as a group study space. We have seen several girls abscond because they are struggling to keep up academically. A space like this allows them to lean on each other and support each other with their studies, even after school hours. Teacher to student ratios are low in areas like this, so it’s important that the girls have a space they can use to help each other. ’
